The Holy month of Ramadan, is not only for abstaining food, drink etc during the day time but is also encouraged for believers to spend more time devoting themselves to Allah (SWT) through prayers and performing good deeds.

It’s essential for every Muslim to leave every useless, worldly and bad thought behind and only think about Allah Almighty. Here are 8 goals suggestion for us to climb the self-improvement ladder:

People who don’t maintain moderate food intake and overindulge will contradicts the purpose of the fast. Part of the benefits of fasting is to help us develop a healthier lifestyle, which we’re supposed to learn self-control not self-indulgence.

As how our Prophet emphasized this one rule in eating: “fill our stomachs with one-third food, one-third water and one-third breathing space, even in Ramadan.

Do Sadaqah and charity

During Ramadan the rewards of our good deeds are multiplied exponentially, and giving Sadaqah at this time allows us to reap the blessings of our charity ten-fold or more.

We have to always remember that giving Sadaqah brings Barakah to our wealth and can even prolong life. The month of Ramadan is one of the best times to give Sadaqah.

Hunger allows us to understand better the difficulty of being hungry, and makes us more sincere in our giving.

Read Quran and memorize new Surah

Ramadan and rewards go hand in hand. The mention of Ramadan brings charity and Quran to our minds. In this era where time is never enough for anyone, most Muslims hardly find time to read the Quran.

However, Ramadan brings the divine opportunity to bring ourselves closer to Allah (SWT) through Quran. Since there are four weeks in Ramadan, try to memorize one new Surah a week.

Even if you feel you’ve got absolutely no time, set a timer or the alarm on your cell phone to be consistent in reading Quran. The point is simply to connect with God through His revelation in the month of the Quran.

Do the Tarawih prayers

After fasting for entire day the thirst and hunger reaches its peak. So it is a common desire to eat as much and as often as we like while breaking the fast.

This routine may affect our physical health in a negative manner such as it may cause fatigue or sluggishness which cause interruptions in our sleep.

Not only offering this prayer brings us closer to Allah Almighty and brings out the Ramadan’s blessing of family bonding spirit, it also provides a chance to do some physical activity which keeps us from eating much.

Forgive everyone for inner peace

Those times when you get into an argument(s) with a family member, friend, classmate or anyone. You know your facts are right or that you’ve been wronged with an insulting remark, sarcastic comment or rudeness. Which is understandable why you decided to hold a grudge

But how can we move up the ladder of spiritual development when we hold bitterness and anger towards another person? By forgiving others, apart from positively affecting our health and our minds, it’s a necessary step to closeness to God.
